DIY Manual Post Bollard Installation Guide

Tools & Materials Needed

• Manual post bollard with fixings
• Tape measure
• Chalk or marker
• Power drill with masonry bit
• Hammer and wrench
• Spirit level
• Safety goggles & gloves
• Concrete (for permanent base, if needed)
• Brush and dustpan

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1:

Choose the Location

Select a flat, solid surface such as a driveway or parking bay. Make sure the area allows for full movement of the bollard and access to its lock if applicable.

Step 2:

Mark the Position

Place the base plate on the desired spot. Mark all fixing hole positions clearly using chalk or marker.

Step 3:

Drill the Holes

Using a hammer drill with a masonry bit, drill holes to the depth specified by the bollard manufacturer. Wear safety goggles and clear out dust from the holes with a brush or vacuum.

Step 4:

Secure the Bollard

Position the bollard base over the holes. Insert anchor bolts or rawl plugs provided. Tighten with a wrench, ensuring the bollard is upright using a spirit level.

Step 5 (Optional):

Set in Concrete

For added strength or if installing into soil/asphalt, dig a hole at least 300mm deep. Pour mixed concrete, insert bollard post, and allow it to cure for 24–48 hours.

Step 6:

Test the Functionality

Lock and unlock the bollard several times to ensure smooth operation. Fold down/removable posts should move freely without obstruction.

Tips for Success

• Always follow the specific instructions provided with your bollard model.
• Do not install over loose gravel or soft surfaces without concrete reinforcement.
• For shared driveways or public areas, consider reflective strips or signage for visibility.
